Hungry Machine (dba LivingSocial) is a local e-commerce service that sends daily deal coupons via e-mail to subscribers of its service. The coupons are good for deals from restaurants, spas, salons, and other local businesses. The services has more than 70 million subscribers and is available in hundreds of markets around the world.  The company is entrenched in a heated battle with top rival and daily-deal site leader Groupon for global market share of the online daily discount market. LivingSocial was founded in 2007 by Tim O'Shaughnessy, Eddie Frederick, Aaron Batalion, and Val Aleksenk. Online retail giant Amazon.com owns about 30% of the firm.
